Cameras and notebooks have always been a ticket to adventure for Jerrianne Lowther, who began freelancing while training as an illustrative photographer at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, New York.
Artists at work and summer theater in upstate New York were early subjects. In Alaska, she wrote and photographed human interest features and travel stories for The Anchorage Times and Alaska magazine before finding her niche as Alaska Field Editor for The Milepost in 1984.
Jerrianne produced editorial and advertising photos and updated highway information for the North Country's popular trip planner and mile-by-mile travel guide until 1998.
Adventure, whether it be rafting the Colorado River, backpacking the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine, cruising the Galapagos Islands by sailboat, or poking through historic ruins in Thailand, remains a primary focus. Closer to home, her goal of driving every mile of every road every year on the connected highway system in Alaska for 14 years has made roadside Alaska her back yard.
